An Introduction to Liberty

Liberty is an upcoming TAS club all about the art of protest. For centuries, protest art has influenced many to promote awareness on a plethora of social issues. Our aim is to increase peaceful protest tactics through the means of art and literature.

Our staff this year consists of two publicists, a secretary, a president, and a treasurer. For the upcoming school term, Pearl S. ('25) and Micah W. ('23) will be in charge of publicity. Miya K. ('25) is our 2022-23 secretary, and Miria C. ('25) is our new treasurer. Please congratulate them if you have the chance! Your president this year is Chloe W. ('25), who so happens to be me!

Pearl and Micah will be in charge of creating posts on social media as well as advertising. Miya will email club facillitators and schol faculty if we are in the need to do so. They will also be responsible for scheduling meetings along with Chloe. Lastly, Miria organizes fundraising events. This includes setting up sky-bridge sales and keeping track of profit. To request more information, ask any of us on Instagram or on our school emails.

Our short-term goals consist of locally raising awareness on taboo or undiscussed social concepts and dilemmas through the means of putting up posters and publishing writings within campus. We hope over a prolonged period of time, we will be able to host public and routine art exhibits that showcase the importance of discussing social issues.

We will be donating our funds through online organizations such as "The Trevor Project," "Black Lives Matter," and "Fight For Right." Although the art room has a great amount of supplies, a fraction of our funds will be used to purchase traditional art mediums that can't be found in the classroom, such as linoleum blocks, as a means of resistance and reclamation. No funds will be kept for personal usage.

Meetings will occassionally be held at cafés such as Starbucks and Street Churros for monthly student-led presentations regarding social issues we aren't able to cover during FLEX times. Additionally, we find it important to hold a social bonding session at least once per semester so that we are comfortable in voicing our opinions to one another.

Finally, Liberty will be meeting once a week, but you are welcome to attend according to your schedule. However, attendence will be taken in regard to selecting officers for the 2023-24 school year.

Thank you for your time, and we hope to see you next year!

Chloe~!!
