All About This Summer

Whether or not you have plans to travel abroad, summer vacation is just around the corner! If you're curious how you could help out with our club, here are five things that we recommend doing before the school term:

1) Attend a protest!

Especially with the current discussion on abortion rights in the United States, the number of protests has skyrocketed. There are several reasons why it is so important to contribute. Firstly, by protesting, we alter the agenda and start a debate. What this means is that we challenge people in power by enforcing an argument so strongly supported that they would have to look into it with more detail. Secondly, people realize they are not alone. With a larger sum of protesters, we are able to form a community rather than a union. If you are able to, look for protests in your area!

2) Design an art print.

One of our greater focuses next year will be printmaking, which consists of having a sketched image to begin with. It would be great if you had a collection of drawings you'd like to engrave into linoleum. If you are unsure with the process of printmaking, refer to our Instagram @taslibertyclub . All materials will be provided next year, so don't worry about buying your own tools. However, bringing your own materials is not prohibited, and is encouraged if you want to explore different mediums.

3) Catch up on the news.

Depending on what's going on in the world, the news could cover serious concerns like war, climate change, the economy, and national elections, as well as seemingly trivial themes like political sex scandals, celebrity gossip, and disputes on minor issues. It's beneficial to keep up with breaking news as it happens. You'll be more able to form opinions on current events if you read the newspaper every day, and you'll also be more prepared if a global event has a direct influence on your life.

4) Bond with other club members!

If you know of anyone who is attending this club next year, it is never a bad idea to get to know them before the year begins! This way, we are more comfortable with voicing our opinions to one another. Our staff for the 2022-23 school year is always here to socialize. Contact us through our club Instagram or through our main accounts if you ever want to get to know us. A reminder that this year's president is Chloe W. ('25), our secretary is Miya K. ('25), our treasurer is Miria C. ('25), and our publicists are Pearl S. ('25) and Micah W. ('23).

5) Write an essay.

Okay, this one sounds horrible. But if you're ever in the mood to whip up a constructive essay about something you are interested in, you should definintely go for it. This can range from a paper on current world issues to a summary of your most recent read. We are then able to publish this on our blog when the school term begins.

Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you next year!

Chloe :)
